Club History

Albany Creek Crushers Club History Yearbook 1994

Albany Creek Crushers held their first meeting in December 1990, as we were known as Albany Creek Junior Rugby League Football Club. It was voted on and decided that a Rugby League club be formed and teams entered in the Brisbane Junior Rugby League competition for season 1991.

The clubs inaugural season commenced 3rd March 1991-the first Albany Creek Junior side ran on to the field at Neuman Oval versus Valleys. The side was captained by Trevor McKey and wore the colours Red and Yellow, which were the colours of the local second division side playing out of the Albany Creek Hotel, we were known as the “Attackers” and our home ground was the Albany Creek High School oval. This side coached by Pat Williams and went on to be undefeated in their inaugural season.

Due to the interest and success of our club, it continued to grow and started to encounter problems. As we didn’t obtain our own club facilities and had to use the local high school fields at Albany Creek.

In 1994 with the help and support of Pine Rivers Shire Council, they announce that land from Murphy’s farm has been purchased for the future development of playing fields for season1996, our current site.

In 1995 the South Queensland Crushers and Albany Creek Junior Rugby League Club sign an agreement to associate for the development of Junior Rugby League. The Club is formally now known as the Albany Creek Crushers and switch to the current design jersey and colours of Mustard Gold, Navy Blue and Red.

In 1996 the club made the move from its home location from Albany Creek High School, to its current location at South Pine Sporting Complex at Brendale. The following year plans were drawn up and submitted to the council to commence on the construction for our existing club infrastructure and amenities.

In September 1998 the clubhouse was officially opened at our current site, with the help of a grant of $50,000.00 from Department of Sport, Tourism and Recreation QLD Government.

In 1999 we received an additional grant of $38,200.00 from Jupiter’s casino. This aided the organisation to complete the fit out of the interior of the canteen and clubhouse.

In 2018 the club moved into a new direction with the commencement of a senior element. This is a positive pathway for our current and future juniors to start their junior football and continue onto the senior ranks, concreting their pathway within the one organisation. Currently, we have senior playing members who assist with the juniors in coaching and fitness training.

This is a positive mentoring role which helps break down the daunting transition from juniors to seniors.

Part of our exciting season for 2018 was to establish a new chapter in our club history pages. A colossal part of our club history was formed. The inaugural commencement of our female competition for the Albany Creek Crushers, age group for U14’s Girls. Supporting and mentoring us through this endeavour time was Sarah Walker. Sarah currently holds the position of NRL Games Development Officer for Brisbane North Schools. Hopefully, in 2019 this will grow and encourage many more females to participate in this great game of ours.
